vintage childrens books

I am a real sucker for childrens books, especially vintage ones. I have a secret stash of very special ones tucked away up high that I will bring out for the girls when they are a bit bigger (Lucy is a little monkey and I would be gutted if she cut them up!). Have you seen the Vintage Childrens Books group on flickr ? If you are like me you can easily waste away a few hours browsing through all the gorgeous images that have been uploaded... so if you are like me, don't look (unless you have a few hours to kill!)

I recently found a copy of the New Gift Book of Nursery Ryhymes. I still have my copy from when I was a child, but couldn't walk past this. It is a little worse for wear, but the illustrations always captivate me.

  7. I am sure that one of my sisters had the same book.

I still have my childhood nursery rhyme book - used to use it with the boys when they were small - so many rhymes in there that we never hear anymore.

  8. Wow, wonderful illustrations. My mum had kept some of the books I read when I was about 8 or 9, books like Carbonel and The Folk of the Far Away Tree. So they have the 70's style illustrations. I will let my two boys read them when they are old enough.. in the mean time they sit on my book shelf, waiting.

  9. Lou, I have just read the Faraway Tree collection (The Enchanted Wood, The Magic Faraway Tree and The Folk of the Faraway Tree all in one book!) to my 6 year old and she loved it, we got to the end (500+ pages) and she asked if we could read it again!

I also found my collection of Swallows & Amazons and Famous Five etc so can't wait to read those again :-)

  10. Oooh - that book is so lovely!
I found a neat one that had some pictured cut out, so I cut some out too and framed them for my son.
